Billions of Suns is a tribute to the cosmologist Carl Sagan and in particular to his belief that the existence of life beyond our planet is highly probable. The song turns the question of whether there is life on other planets on it’s head. As an extraterrestrial who is unaware of life on Earth ponders the likelihood that they are not alone in the universe.

This is the first Drachenhaus release to feature vocals processed through a vocoder. The song also features samples of Sagan’s narration from the show Cosmos:

“For the first time, we have the power to decide the fate of our planet and ourselves. This is a time of great danger, but our species is young, and curious, and brave. It shows much promise. In the last few millennia we have made the most astonishing and unexpected discoveries about the cosmos and our place within it. I believe our future depends powerfully on how well we understand this cosmos in which we float like a mote of dust in the morning sky.”
